DITENAVE – Shipbuilding and Boatbuilding Technological District of Friuli Venezia Giulia
The shipbuilding and boatbuilding industries in Friuli
Venezia Giulia
The shipbuilding and pleasure boat industries are an asset for
the economy of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Shipbuilding is
one of the traditional industries of the region, which has
established, over time, deep links and interdependencies with other
sectors of the regional economy. The shipbuilding industry, which
is mainly represented by Fincantieri, provides the ancillary
businesses - often SMEs - with constant workloads, thus favouring
their growth through technological and organizational development.
Shipbuilding operators are 3,000 approximately, plus about 550
suppliers. The regional pleasure boat industry comprises all the
components of the production chain: architectural firms, shipyards,
refit companies, marine service providers, totalling 400
enterprises and 2,500 jobs.
Why a Technological District?
The willingness to create a Shipbuilding and Boatbuilding
Technological District has its origins in the requirement of many
enterprises for unlocking their own potential in high-tech
production segments in order to be more competitive in the global
market.
This initiative mirrors the concrete implementation of the
Lisbon Strategy, since the target to reach higher technical and
economic competitiveness is ensured by acting on the three pillars
of the so called "knowledge triangle": research, innovation and
education (training).
It fosters territorial development and involves three main
categories of actors: Institutional Actors, Economic Actors
(Enterprises) and Non-Economic Actors (universities, research and
training entities, schools).
DITENAVE objectives
DITENAVE plays a vital role in helping the shipbuilding and
pleasure boat industries reaching higher technical and economic
competitiveness in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
Its mission focuses on those economic activities - within the
manufacturing and services sectors - having or planning to have a
significant proportion of turnover generated by the shipbuilding
and/or boatbuilding industries.
DITENAVE is conceived so that its three pillars of action are
basically independent but coordinated, at implementation level, by
the Coordination and Control Structure of the District managing
body: the DITENAVE Association.
